Pirates vs. Privacy: I’m rooting for the Pirates

Here at Cyberpunk Hero we’re a big fan of the Pirate Party. If you haven’t heard of them, you should check them out.

We like them because they believe in the freedom of information. All information should be free to everyone, all the time. More importantly, information will be free. It’s impossible to stop. Every attempt at censorship has, in the long run, failed. And with the rise of the Internet, information is easier to gain than ever.

However, the Pirate Party also claims to support the right to privacy. This is patently absurd.

Privacy is, at its heart, a form of censorship. It’s stopping other people from learning your information. And that doesn’t work.

One cannot both be in support of downloading the so-called “private” data of companies, such as movies and albums, but then say that their own private data cannot also be shared. We must acknowledge that privacy is nothing more than censorship by the citizens, and just as with all censorship, it should be stomped out.
